Mayor Coss to Proclaim March 17th Green Means Local Day
March 1, 2011
Go Green, Go Local for St. Patrick’s Day:
A Community Campaign and Event
This St. Patrick’s Day is shaping up to be truly green in Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Alliance, IATSE Local 480 Film Union, MIX, Green Production Resource, Hutton Broadcasting and Green Fire Times are collaborating on a community-wide campaign to encourage citizens to go local and go green all day, this March 17th. It’s all about keeping the green in Santa Fe, economically and ecologically. It’s an opportunity to turn off your television and tune into local print and broadcast media; ride your bike, take the bus or walk to work; eat, drink and shop exclusively at locally owned independent businesses; and have fun in sharing in your commitment for a greener community. Everyone can participate and take the Go Local, Go Green for St. Patrick’s Day pledge by “Liking” the “Green Means Local Santa Fe” Facebook page. Also, be sure to look for the “Kiss Me, I’m Green and Local” story on page three in the March issue of the Green Fire Times.
On Wednesday, March 16th at 12:00 pm, Mayor Coss will proclaim March 17th the First Annual Green Means Local Day at a festive press conference at the Railyard location of Second Street Brewery. Pipe Major William Horn from High Desert Pipes and Drums will call us to assembly at high noon. Come show your solidarity, get informed and stay for lunch at the Second Street Brewery.
The campaign will culminate at Reduce, Reuse, ReMIX, a MIX event with a local and green theme in support of the campaign, Thursday, March 17th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Santa Fe Center for Progress and Justice at 1420 Cerrillos Road (next door to the film union offices). The event will feature DJ Dynamite Sol, complimentary food from participating restaurants in the Santa Fe Alliance’s Farm to Restaurant Project, beer from the Santa Fe Brewing Company and a cash bar.
