GREEN DRINKS ON THE TRAIN
Santa Fe, NM –Green Drinks and the Santa Fe Alliance are thrilled to partner once again with Santa Fe Southern Railway to host the popular Green Drinks on the Train, Wednesday, June 30, 6:40-8:40 pm (must arrive by 6:10). We’ll travel out to the Galisteo Basin and back for a warm summer ride. Last year we sold out at 200 people maximum capacity, so get on board with your reservation to ensure your seat on this green, hip networking event that is an authentic, irreplaceable link to our city’s colorful past.
Carol Raymond, President and General Manager of Santa Fe Southern Railway (SFSR) will be our guest speaker. She will share with us the history and current challenges of keeping the train on the rails and her green solution for developing rail freight in Santa Fe and serving the larger Northern New Mexico region. This will benefit smaller shippers, especially those shipping commodities of our new energy economy: solar panels and turbines as well as solid waste and recycling to markets for energy and re-fabrication. Rail freight will improve air quality and reduce petroleum usage because SFSR uses biodiesel. She believes it is critical to create a warehouse/trans-load facility—a rail freight port—within the I-25 loop, and she’ll show us where she envisions that en route from the train.
Bring cash to purchase local brew and other cocktails on the train, participate in raffles for cool prizes, and to tip your bartender. Complimentary goodies by restaurants in the Railyard and along the tracks will be available, but we hope you will take advantage of their coupons to visit them when you get off the tracks: Flying Star Café, La Choza, Lamy Station Café and others.
The cost will be $20 per person (children 2 and younger are free) with all proceeds benefitting two great causes: Santa Fe Southern Railway and the Santa Fe Alliance. Reserve your spot by going to SantaFeAlliance.com or calling 989-5362.
Green Drinks is a grassroots phenomenon occurring in more that 661 cities worldwide where sustainability minded folks get together to mingle and have a drink. Our mission is to create community among environmentally minded people, establish a forum for learning about developing green topics and to inspire each other to live as lightly on the planet as possible.
Santa Fe Southern Railway, known worldwide as simply “the Santa Fe,” the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway came into its namesake city in 1880. SFSR is a piece of living history—from its vintage railcars to it’s charming mission-style depot—still carrying passengers through the high-desert beauty and still carrying freight to serve the community. A ride on the SFSR for parties, wedding or special events is a perfect way to enjoy the Santa Fe landscape.
Parking at the Santa Fe Depot The best parking options are in the new underground parking structure next to REI, metered spaces on the streets near the depot or the central pay stations parking spaces. Do not park in Tomasita’s parking lot.
